Sam Gauntley
Number of seasons teaching:

I have been lucky enough to ski regularly since I was 8 years old, however despite having had many ski lessons when I was younger and skiing being one of my favourite things, it never once occurred to me that I could make it my career!

Luckily for me though just out of school and searching for inspiration, I found myself on my first ski season at 18. The ‘Eureka’ moment happened, and the rest as they say, is history. 7 seasons later (3 of which have been here in Zermatt) and Ski Instructing really is the gift that keeps on giving for me. Combining almost all of my favourite things into one overall experience. Being outdoors, meeting new people, travelling, exploring and of course skiing. My family and friends may also lovingly add ‘Talking’ to that list of favourite things haha.

I love having my favourite hobby as my job, my aim is always to help you enjoy the sport as much as I do.

In the summer:
I am lucky enough to work for my family wine importing business based in Nottingham.
My Zermatt insider tip is:
If the weather is right for it, don’t forget to go up to the panorama platform on the top of Klein Matterhorn (the highest ski lift station in Europe) while you’re here. It is one of the greatest views in the alps and you can see into France, Switzerland and Italy!
If I wasn't a Summit instructor:
I have always been incredibly passionate about music and have been a drummer for many years, so if ski instructing was no longer an option I would loved to pursue a career as a touring/ studio musician.
3 reasons to ski with me:
1. Because all of our other instructors will be fully booked
2. My colleagues would give me a SOLID 5.5 out of 10
3. I missed the second half of last season due to injury, my days may be numbered so book me while you can!
