Chris Thorne

I loved skiing from the moment I first tried the sport at the age of 4, and nothing has really changed since! Zermatt has been home for the last 17 years, so it’s definitely somewhere I know well.

After many years in the tour operator business and enjoying all the off piste has to offer I then worked my way through my instructor qualifications, I hold the BASI ISIA Stamp and the Swiss Brevet.

There’s not much I enjoy more than sharing the buzz of skiing and my enthusiasm for this unique resort.

In the summer

I run www.414kiting.com – my own kitesurf school on Lake Como in northern Italy. I spend the whole summer there in what has to be one of the most beautiful locations to learn to kitesurf on the planet

My Zermatt insider tip is:
If you’re an early bird, take the first Gornergrat train (0800) to get fresh piste (or off piste if you’re lucky!) before anyone else even gets on the other lifts at the bottom. You’ll get an epic run all the way down to Furi or Gant with nobody else anywhere to be seen.
If I wasn't a Summit instructor:

I’d be skiing in the winter and kiting in the summer in another way!

3 reasons to ski with me:

1. Fun. Skiing is about as fun as it gets – and I always want my students to leave with a smile on their face.

2. If you’ve got a goal, I want to help you achieve it. If you haven’t, let’s find one and achieve it. There’s not much more satisfying than reaching a goal that you never thought you would.

3. Zermatt is a big place, and it takes a while to get to know it. I enjoy sharing my experience of the place from spending countless seasons here.
