10 week isia training course

Course overview

The Summit Professional Development ISIA Training program is a 10-week course. Our main goal is to help you pass BASI ISIA courses. We will help you prepare for the following exams.

ISIA Technical

Our objective is that you come out of the course skiing your best for the technical exams and also aware of your own performance and how to continue to develop.

ISIA Teaching

You will work within your groups and closely with the experienced Summit Team to improve your teaching and understanding of what makes a good instructor.

BASI Mountain Safety

You will have sessions with a UIAGM mountain guide to introduce you to the requirements for the off piste course.

Second Discipline – Snowboard or Telemark

There will also be time to learn or improve on your snowboarding or telemarking during the course, to help you achieve the level required.

200 Hours

The hours you complete shadowing with us will count towards the 200 required to attend BASI ISIA Technical and Teaching courses

Course Structure

The 10 weeks is broken down into three sections:

Weeks 1 – 4: Training Period 1
Weeks 5 & 6: Shadowing
Weeks 7 – 10: Training Period 2

Coaching

During the training periods there will be coaching 5 afternoons each week. This will cover all the technical and teaching elements of the ISIA courses.

We will work in small groups with a maximum of 8 in a group so our coaches can focus on your individual needs throughout the course. They will work with you early in the course to create an action plan and set goals you want to achieve. They can then help to ensure you get there before you take your exams.

Shadowing

During weeks 5 and 6 there is a break from the technical training. You will be placed with an ISIA qualified Summit instructor to observe their teaching. You will be looking at types of feedback, teaching styles etc. Then meeting with the instructor and your coach to further your understanding of these.

There will also be the opportunity to shadow lessons in the mornings during the training periods.

Practice Time

There is enough time built into the course so you can practice what you are working on. This is balanced with the coaching sessions to ensure progress is made. It is important to remember that to make changes you have to put in a lot of effort, it is not just a case of being told how to get better. You will need to be out there working on your own skiing.

Off snow sessions

In addition to the time on the hill you will work with your coach off the hill to set goals, understand technical and teaching aspects and review the video sessions.
