We realise that the strong Swiss Franc has made everything in Zermatt more expensive than it was a few years ago. We’re trying to make it easier on you by freezing our prices for a 4th consecutive year.
Private Lessons
How do you know if you’re getting value for money when booking a private lesson?
Private lesson prices vary depending on the duration they run. To compare schools, you really need to take the price and divide it by the number of hours to get an ‘hourly’ price.
How many people are included in your private lesson price?
Some schools in Zermatt charge up to 40chf per person extra when there are more than two sharing the lesson. At Summit we have a set price for a private lesson, however many people are in the lesson.
The following table shows a comparison of prices:
| Lesson Duration | Summit | Stoked | Swiss School |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 hour private lessons (2 people) |
250chf | 249chf | 245chf |
| 3 hour private lessons (4 people) |
250chf | 309chf | 305chf |
| Unlimited full day lessons (2 people) |
460chf | - | 490chf |
| Unlimited full day lessons (4 people) |
460chf | - | 570chf |
Is your instructor qualified?
Finally, check out the qualification of the instructors on offer. Amazingly, ski schools are allowed to put unqualified instructors onto the hill. Not something we do at Summit, of course. Click here for more on our qualifications.
Group Lessons
How do you know if you’re getting value for money when booking a group lesson?
Group lessons are normally a more affordable way to learn to ski. This can be a false economy unless you carefully check the small print.
How many are in the group?
Most important is the maximum number of people in a group. Obviously, the smaller the group, the more individual attention, feedback and tips you’re going to get. At Summit, we guarantee no more than six in a group.
What language are you being taught in?
The amount of learning that can be done also depends on how the information comes across. Will the instructor need to spend time explaining things in many different languages? Summit lessons are delivered entirely in English by British instructors.
Will the group get cancelled?
Finally, check whether the group will definitely run. Many schools will simply cancel groups if there are not enough participants. Or worse, they will combine their beginner / intermediate / advanced groups into one. At Summit, we guarantee to run a group, even if there’s only one person booked in.
