Summit Ski School

Top Tips

We thought this would be a good addition to our site, whether you are new to the mountains and skiing or the seasoned pro, the top tips from the Summit Team could be useful before you next hit the slopes...

Get fit

Remember skiing is exercise, and lasting a full day will be easier if you are reasonably fit. The better prepared you are the easier and it will be, plus you are much less likely to get injured

Wear Suncream

Up at altitude the suns rays are particulaly intense so you can easily get a sun burn. Even on cloudy days it's worth wearing suncream as it's also great protection against the cold and wind.

Learn how to carry your skis

Ask your instructor to teach you the best way to carry your skis, once you figure it out it will make your life much easier.

How many layers should I wear?

The best thing to do is wear more thin layers, rather than a couple of really bulky ones. A good quality jacket and ski pants will keep you warm when it's snowing or windy.

Glasses or goggles?

One of the Summit team members is known for saying 'glasses for show, goggles for go', and he's not far wrong. Goggles will be better for preventing streaming eyes when you are skiing, but glasses are much better at the restaurant over lunch.

Where should I hire my equipment?

All Summit clients are offered a 10% discount on equipment hire at Reinhold Perren Sports (the shop that the Summit office is based in). The shop is on the main street right next to McDonalds, so you can't miss it.

Italy

If you are planning on skiing over in Italy for the day, it's worth leaving a little early to avoid any lift queues up to Klein Matterhorn. Leaving from the bottom station at 08.45 will make a big difference to leaving at 09.00.
